A Perplexing Subject

March 28 2014

It's a known fact that Men will read whilst they're on the Toilet . A paper , a magazine , a book or , now , a smart phone or iPad . It came to my attention that , of all the Women I spoke to , none of them read whilst on the John . The Women I spoke to were very much of the mindset : "get in , get it done & get out". Whereas for Men , perhaps , it's the only place in the house to find Perfect Solitude . So Riddle me this : Who amongst you reads whilst you're on the Throne ? Are my stats skewed ? Do all Men read whilst on the Dunny ? Do any Women read whilst on the Porcelain Ring ? & what about the reading material ? Is it making us smarter ? Or are those that read on the Bog only reading the Bunnings catalogue or shampoo bottle to pass the time ? GG♒️ - Posted from rhpmobile

I have been in homes where there is a magazine rack next to the toilet. Well thumbed magazines for all to read.....no, thank you. My ex used to say it was the only time he got peace and quiet, so took the "quiet time" to read his Mens Health magazines. Oh, and guys who take their phones in there, too. Two of my male friends have dropped their phones into the toilet as they were pulling up their pants....c'mon, boys, its for one thing and one thing only, go in, do the business and get out. And, no, I would never consider taking my Cosmo in there, just gross.......

Mum once decorated our bathroom in the pink panther style, all revolved around the pink padded toilet seat, even wallpaper that was of snippets to newspaper clippings. Could not help but just sit and read on that comfy pink padded ring. Mado Mado Tara xx

perhaps men are more inclined to contemplation while on the throne because it is afteral the first creative act that we do as humans.Like any creative act there is a certain satisfaction when it is finished.....women tend to ju st want to get on with the job,so to speak, with lists of things going through their minds....take kids to school.....shop groceries....parent teacher interview.....etc....xx Q

Yes, I read on the toilet !!! I am also a Single Working Mum so any alone time is precious (not that I get a lot of that, even on the toilet) but you take what you can get, when you get it.

The only thing I can remember reading in the loo was the printed loo rolls, little ditties that make you smile, or in the odd public loo, the limericks people write on the door. These days it's the ads for burning sensations!

Funny how as soon as you've just sat down to do your business and there's a knock on the door with, Mummy this, Mummy that. So, no, I don't read on the toilet. I might, however, be going through the grocery list and thinking up what to cook up for dinner. Sorry, TMI lol - Posted from rhpmobile

Quoting 'Beachlover1999' Guys are soooo uptime about their butt, generally, it takes time and distraction to empty their bowel! ie read book, paper, porn. etc. :) Yes men need to contemplate...when my children were little one of them found it difficult..so i would give them something to read, it relaxes them and whallah! I have no issues there I cant imagine spending any more time than necessary in there.

I guess from my, blokes perspective, I find the process sometimes quick, sometimes long. If it will take awhile, its always good to have something at hand. May as well use the time productively. I usually have the smart phone out to catch up on facebook or the SMH news site. So I guess have the time im dumbing down, the other half im educating myself. I will leave it to others to guess which is which.

I knew someone, who would take his mobile to the toilet and secretly text or communicate with his other lovers whilst I was there...Did he think I was stew-ped or somefink? If I questioned him about it, he went into full denial mode and tried to twist it back onto me, that I had the issue. Rather than being all secret and hush hush about it..I couldn't understand why he would do that, rather than being open and honest...It made me think, what was HE hiding?? I must say tho - little did he know he's taught me how "some" men play the game. Foxy - smarter and wiser. :)

Chalk me up as another guy who likes to read on the loo. It just seems that I should be doing something while I'm in there. If I'm not I just feel lazy. Now, I do know this person who will take their phone in to the toilet whilst speaking with someone to do their business... that's just wrong LOL. Foxy your posts always make for an entertaining read.

you can actually get through more than a paragraph because nobody comes to bother you Mrs Wren - who has been known to lock herself in the bathroom 'on the loo' with the fan on to hide the sound of turning pages

Sometimes i'm in and out, sometimes i take a book, sometimes i read whats there, and sometimes i do sudoku or crosswords. Depends on my day. Sometimes i'm in there as long as if i was reading even if i don't. I'm a deep thinker and its a good place to follow a train of thought to the end with no distractions. Of course there's always the problem of following too long a train of thought and your legs going to sleep. In my last place, one of my housemates would be in 5-6 times a day. Took 2-3 before work and 2-3 after. refused to believe there was something unhealthy about it. He was always in there and read long books which caused some serious and frequent "hurry up i have to go!" dancing for the other two of us.
