Apparently everyone lives in Melbourne!

January 12 2026

We have noticed that a lot of profiles (couples & singles) have their location as the wonderful city of Melbourne. Some of these profiles we have initiated chats with and during the chat they have told us they live in Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Pakenham etc, places that range from 45 minutes to hours away (regional Victoria) from the Melbourne CBD. Some/most people may think, yeah so why does that matter. History/our experience so far has taught us that chatting to people who live a large distance from us/Melbourne, just doesn’t work out. Planning, time, distance are always against us and we now use that knowledge to determine if there is any point in chatting with people who live far away. We could probably delve further into this and do some goggling to work out council borders etc to make our point, but we don’t want to put people through the trauma of reminding them why their rates are so much higher than a neighbouring suburb. So, why put Melbourne as your location if you clearly live in some of the suburbs that are no where near Melbourne? We understand people want to be discreet and safe, but we find the above scenario deceiving. Why not put a neighbouring suburb or similar as your location, so people have more of an idea about time/travel to meet up.

When I lived in Victoria I had my location as Melbourne even though I actually lived in a country town some distance from there. The reason being that I only met people in Melbourne. I never met or played in my home town. It was too risky. I stated this in my profile. Even now I don’t like mentioning the name of the town just in case. There was no way I would have listed my actual location as it would have come up in searches and attracted the attention of local member who I had no attention of meeting and who I didn’t want to know that I lived there. I understand that being far away it took time and organisation to meet up. I also plainly stated this in my profile. In any case we used to travel there often and attended several meet and greets and clubs and made some great friends. Shells xx

I find it reasonable for people to put the location that they feel comfortable with. Guess they might put in their profile somewhere closer if they wish, but a simple question to them and its all cleared up. So however each use thensite is up to them. I gonsee your point of view that you find it deceiving, but I don't think it is intentional. Its fornother reasons as stated. Cheers W

Because there probably isn’t a couple with the same names in our suburb so could be easily found via social media. All our most our lifestyle friends are at least an hour away and we’re happy to travel if their worth it.

Yeah kinda gives me the shits but I have known a few women in outer areas of Melbourne using Melb. as their place of residence. Some areas are pretty small and they don't want people or more to the point, stalkers knowing their exact location. It can be a bit of a pain when you find out they are closer to Gippsland or Sunbury than Melb. itself but everyone has their reasons for doing what they do. Frustrating no doubt for those who have to organise precise times and places. Not so bad for me as I am basically a free soul

Yes I find it annoying too.. I had to change mine after having a stalker off here but it at least should be in the ballpark.. time is precious.. why waste it chatting with someone whose completely unsuitable based on location.. and totally agree.. long distance never works.. but when I say that it’s constantly met with “i can drive” or “ im always in the area”

I used to put my actual suburb before but that caused a lot of unnecessary drama. I would rather not have people know where I live

We live in country vic but often travel to Melb for events/clubs etc. But we use a didn’t town close but far enough away that not everyone knows. Just more for protection and in small places everyone tries to get in your business.

CBD is a very small area. Most people will say they live in Melbourne as this is Melb metro area. I agree those in regional Vic should specify this but it’s one of the first questions I ask anyway
