My job is like it was made for me. I am very lucky to have had a good work ethic all my life and any past employers would have me back in a heartbeat. My now employer pretty much pays me to stay, I get so many perks from my job because I am good at it, my employers love me, the sales reps and suppliers love me, my customers love me, some even just pop in to see me because they see my car. I can't say I have ever had a job that I didn't really like and I could have done anything but (and sorry for being cocky here) I am very good at a variety of things so I could never settle on anything that I 'wanted' to do for a career because I could have branched out in any direction. It is important to enjoy what you do as it carries into your personal life and sleep patterns and how you treat those around you due to being stressed or tired or overworked and under appreciated. I used to have a tendency to live to work but now I am learning to work to live but as my kids get older and more independent it is far easier to do. The reasons I love my job is because I can help people. People tell me their most intimate stories and I can use my knowledge in an area where people differ so greatly to give them an individual response.

I'm not going to say what I actually do, as I want to protect my privacy and also want my privacy of my work. I've always been career driven no matter what I've done. I started working at the age of 15, part time after school. I love my new role I am in...even tho sometimes I just want to bang my head on a brick wall at some staff and the things they do...I think WTF are you even doing in this role!! But over all I have some pretty amazing/awesome days and I also have the best Manager. I've only started this new role since, early this year and I never thought I would be out there managing teams, coaching/training and having the responsibilities, as in huge responsibilities! I'm also doing more study via work to further my hence my skills. It's rewarding my role..it's my passion....it's what I love to do. I've always been employed and have only taken 12mths off when I had my daughter. I had to go back to work as being at home was not for me....it drove me MENTAL and I needed adult stimulation. I seriously don't know how I would cope if I was unemployed. Maybe study at uni but I know just can't stay at home...I'd be bored as bat shit! Foxy

Society sometimes puts job satisfaction as a very important part of out lives.... At my work we are given questionnaires every year and from that recommendations are made. One recommendation was that once a month we have Physio's come in and give us shoulder massages! We have some great perks at work like 7 weeks annual, leave plus toil. How great is that!! I know if I was not happy in my role - I would not be there. Job satisfaction is very important to me as I spent long hours at work and it's takes up a lot of my precious time. It does however it does make my social life suck sometimes and I do have to work some week ends. I have to plan things weeks in advance, which is a down fall. I know I have missed out on a lot of quality time with my daughter and did feel guilty for many years. Foxy

That the people you work with including the boss are a big decider as to whether you enjoy your job aot of the time I have been at the same place for nearly 19 years now and they are like my family It's very rare that I don't wake up looking forward to going to work each day - Posted from rhpmobile

got job satisfaction... I've tried many things, but they were all, at the end of the day, jobs. I think the day you call your job your career, you've reached some level of satisfaction. I envy those who get job satisfaction as i think i never will... That's why I'm still looking for a job... Now if i could just win the lotto i could bypass the whole thing... Some people derive a lot of job satisfaction from a clear progression ladder. My mum's like that... She works for a uni and there's the clear delineation of levels, which gives you something to aim for and no ambiguity about when you've reached that next tier... I met a 50 something dude who had been working the night shift at this servo for as long as i could remember and one night stumbling in drunk with a few mates i asked him why he didn't find something else. He claimed to love it. The hours were exactly what he wanted and talking about all the drunks and wierdos that constantly wandered through was one of the highlights in his week. I don't get that at all, but each to their own i suppose.

even at times it gets me down.... it is interesting and challenging and thats what I like. I work with people from all walks of life. The work environment plays a big role in whether you feel comfortable and supported when u need it at work, which is important in my line of work, because when it goes bad it is mentally draining.

I have been fortunate in that I have only ever had two jobs that I loathed and neither lasted more than a year.....I have been a bookseller, managed a Buddhist retreat center in California, developed and managed arts based services for people with disabilities........Now I work with kids who have learning disabilities and we are building a community garden in partnership with a major retailer......if you are spending a third of your life doing something you don't absolutely love,it will probably make you sick and mor depressed... .follow your bliss xx Q

I run my own business as sole trader. I love it. I am my owns boss and do what I want to do in a field I am passionate about. If I have have a bad day which is rarely- I just tell myself to piss off and go fishing. I have worked in the corporate world for more dough but it comes with the workplace politics and the 8-5 grind. EG

When I took a job I hated I became depressed and actually had a heart attack at work....so for me the opposite has been true...of course if you have a family to feed or no choice, then that is different...I simply answered the OPs question xx Q

Gives me job satisfaction, I think find a job that pays well that you hate so you will never want to or have to work overtime when asked and then you will appreciate your free time.

What a fascinating life you have led I am very fortunate to be self employed I served as a apprentice for years learning and fine tuning my craft earning shit money but I worked with many greats, and that in itself was a dream Now I work on a commission basis or assignments, mainly in the arts. I can pick and chose my projects, set my own fees, chose to travel to the assignment if I wish and I chose my hours. I could not ask for anything more because I work at what I love. And I know that I am indeed fortunate And if I don't want to work I don't because I'm now in a position where I've built a name for myself and can charge accordingly allowing me freedom . Downside, I'm away a lot and when home I mainly work at nights or the weekend, hard to sustain a relationship. Ah well Do though what you love, it will reflect in other areas of your life if you don't.

It's a job, I go most days, I travel an hour to and from work, I work 4 x 10 hour days, so it's a long weekend every weekend which is a bonus....about to start something new and completely different with the same company, I'm looking forward to that and not sure where it will take me.....💋

People's jobs can define their identity. My father was a cop for 20 years, most of that in a small country town. After he left he still identified himself (personally, not badge flashing) as such. That was in 1982, and he still thinks like a copper. I actually don't know whether it's sad because he had to leave a job he loved (long story) or good that he really enjoyed a job he was apparently quite good at for such a long time. - Posted from rhpmobile

Then I shall take up gardening for others, which I already do to some extent, but I will charge an hourly rate. I am also going to raise orchids.

Is a great job!! I get autonomy; I get to talk to people(something I enjoy); and I get paid to travel..... I don't have the bitchiness and segregation that occurs in offices. I don't get the backstabbing for commissions, as all our loads are time slotted anyway. What more could a guy ask for?? - Posted from rhpmobile

yeah, seems like there is a big part in job satisfaction, have been thinking of changing the perspective of my working life, might consider doing the job for the jobs sake, and seek enjoyment outside work

I work shifts (morning, evening or night), including some weekends. It means that I get to do stuff with my daughter during the week that a lot of dads don't get to experience. It does have some downsides, but I prefer it to a '9 to 5' type of job. I enjoy the actual job too - it's mentally challenging and every shift is a bit different. When I'm on leave there's nothing building up that I have to deal with when I get back so I can truly forget about work and relax. I've been doing it for 8 years now and don't see myself changing careers any time soon. Oh, and the money's pretty good too which helps.

Please make the change! Honestly, enjoyment can be found at work but it is so much better to find it with like minded people outside work.

As a Registered Nurse, working with marginalized people, I get to make a small difference in their lives. I might be helping them find a place to stay or counselling, it might just be a smile. The pay is crap, but I could not imagine doing anything else. I'm truly blessed.

Not always easy to do but it chose to throw away the white collar and do something I enjoy. Better yet we can both work together. I do think much of ones self worth is tied to our work. To our sense of achievement. It's not always sunshine and roses, it is definitely hard work. But it beats the crap out of the stress of sales and an office!! - Posted from rhpmobile

I've had a varied job history....after I finished uni the first time I didn't end up going into the field I studied in, and instead took the first full time job that came along. That was a desk-based job and so were the next few after that. After I took a voluntary redundancy from the last one I realised that I couldn't do anymore jobs that had me chained to a desk most of the time, it would drive me crazy. By then I had learned about and developed an interest in occupational therapy, so I took the plunge and decided to go back to uni to study it. I really like the holistic nature of OT, which looks at the full spectrum of physical, social, cultural and institutional factors that influence a person's life and well-being. Another aspect that really appeals to me is the variety of different fields you can work in, even sex therapy which is one of the areas on my shortlist to possibly work in.

I currently do alot of audits on international suppliers and as much as i enjoy the money i do wish i had more time to myself. This is not so easy when you fly around the world too different countrys. Relationships never seem too last because im always away sometimes weeks at a time. Thats just the way it is although my time traveling around the world i have met some very sexy people and have had some very good times. My eyes have been opened wide if you can say that.

Sometimes that is a bad thing too as you work too many hours and the job never seems to get any easier. I learnt after feeling let down by some employers that I now need to focus on what i want not what others need from you. So studying now so I can work for myself.
