Help Me With a Playlist

September 25 2016

Hello! Every Tuesday night I go live on air on our local community radio station for an hour and 45 minutes. It should be a 2 hour time slot, but I'm granted 15 minutes to get from my desk at work to the studio, iPhone plugged into the console with a play list ready to hit the button and go to to air. I play rock music and my listeners seem to like tuning in to hear my choice of music with my voice announcing the songs every three or four songs. I've been doing community radio for nearly 15 years now and, even though I'm always on the lookout for songs to fit the theme that I don't have, I'm starting to feel like my play list is getting a little stale. Any suggestions for some songs I should download? Please bear in mind it must be appropriate for public listening.

I listen to ONLY rock music on the radio- unless it's R&B Fridays (sometimes, for a change-up)Preferred station- REBEL FMSince the awakening of the R&B genre, rock bands have been fewer in forming, sadly. Some of the new ones I like include,-- Violent Sohos (Awesome!!)- Blackstone Cherry- Wolfmother (not so new anymore)- Whitesnake- Van Halen Personal favourites are the up-beat, heavy bass stuff from the old Glam-Rock / Punk-Rock eras-- Def Leppard- Motley Crew- Poison (you NEVER hear Poison on the radio anymore)- Black Sabbath - Billy Idol- Green Day- Offspring For something alternative you could try-- Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds- Billy Brand Of course, old school favourites will never die-- AC/DC- Metallica- Queen- Screaming Jets- Nirvana *Suggestion- for a point of difference, try to mix in a few of the really cool album tracks that were not major radio-hits (think AC/DC- Crabsody In Blue; Machine Gun Fellatio- Dirty F#!@cking Whore; Tenacious D- Fuck Her Gently).OK, those last two might not be suitable for community radio ;).OK, maybe the last 3 :P Rock On, WiccaWitch.Wicked to hear a Rock-Chick keeping the Rock dream alive.

Polluxswife, Inspirit and Cheekyguy: looks like I'll be doing some googling tonight to take a look at those. ClockwiseCircles: what can I say, a man who knows the way to my heart with music! Poison is regularly played on my shift on radio (Nothin' But A Good Time). As is Def Leppard, Billy Idol, Greenday, ACDC and Queen. Adamt: It wouldn't be one of my broadcasts without Bon Jovi belting out on air. ManWomanorCouple: How could I forget about Bryan Adams? I even have a couple of his CDs. Your other suggestions are very enticing and will be considered. Please don't stop making suggestions once Tuesday rolls around as I'm on air each week so I will never stop being on the lookout for some ideas that I haven't yet thought of or a reminder of some great music artists that I may have forgotten about.

Betty, Lay Your Hands On Me is a great song, but anything from Bon Jovi is pretty fantastic. Koolgrey, I play a bit of Foreigner but some of their heavier stuff such as Juke Box Hero. I like The Cars but I think they're a little too mellow for what my listeners are used to hearing from me.

You cheeky man! Lol I've added We Will Rock You and I Want It All, both by Queen. Have you tried to see if you can pick up the frequency? We've had the odd call from a hill occasionally.

So what are you saying? You're totally forgivable! Lol At risk of sounding out of the times, I'm not sure if I know any of Unforgiven, so it'll need to go on my google list, followed by Alice in Chains (thanks, Fifo, I'll always welcome new ideas).

I've put that on air many times for you, even though you weren't in range to hear it. I've changed the genre of music I play now, so that's a little mellow, however, I just played Nothing Too Serious by Icehouse instead. If you're passing through on a Tuesday, I'll put Gotta Be Crazy on. Only for you would I step outside the genre.

"Forever Country" by a cast of Artists too long to list. It's a conglomeration of, "Take Me Home Country Roads" by John Denver, "On The Road Again", by Willie Nelson, and I Will Always Love You" by Dolly Parton. Love the clip that goes with it. <3 My youngest introduced me to, "Where is The Love" by the Black Eyed Peas ft The World. Beautiful, Peachy

Quoting 'WiccaWitch' So what are you saying? You're totally forgivable! Although Mrs Panky does seem to have forgiven me . There are those who haven't forgiven me, like you I have a big family and I went to a big family gathering last year in Christchurch, many were pleased to see me. One cuzzies wife didn't say a word and gave the evil eye from a metre or so away Meanwhile what about some Slade?Or some Thin Lizzy, Jailbreak was great album.
