I have a dream...

August 27 2013

It is the 5oth anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr's I have a dream speech, so in memory/celebration of such a stirring and important part of history, what is your dream for the future? I have a dream.... That the politicians of this country will legalise same sex marriage!

Maybe the redistribution of the world's wealth might cover it, a bit of properly prioritized spending would help fix a lot of the other issues that top my list...

Quoting 'Paradisepair' Maybe the redistribution of the world's wealth might cover it, a bit of properly prioritized spending would help fix a lot of the other issues that top my list... and everything would be swiftly back to where it is today."If the people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered...I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies... The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."They knew the answer to this 500 years ago ... the problem is we are surrounded by apathetic and willfully ignorant people who allow those with malevolent purpose to run amok unchallenged. The Only Thing Necessary for the Triumph of Evil is that Good Men Do Nothing

That laws regarding Super funds changed, and that you could put your "Super" in a high interest saving account rather than being screwed by fees and charges... Oh and REALLY reduced fees IF you contributed to your Super :P

First thing(s) that come to my mind...1. Education reform. Equal opportunity to education and health care2. Increased funding and support for studentsExtra emphasis on the students... some of the living standards uni students deal with is atrocious, especially those who are independent and full paying (not on hecs). A close friend of mine whom is also the smartest guy I know, shares a room in an apartment with two other people. At night time cockroaches fall from the ceiling (he lives in a really shitty building) - and his diet consists of Campbell soup and white bread (most days of the week). Then if he is lucky he can afford a beer or two on the weekend. If the roles were reversed and I was in his position - I would not have finished my course, and would probably not have a future that I deserve. So it makes me think... how many people out there haven't made it through uni because of the financial pressure and just general stress - if you don't have the proper means to support yourself. It's one of the biggest contradictions of being a democratic society that values equality I have noticed.
