Killing Weight !

March 18 2015

Most people like to kill a bit of weight now and again particularly after Christmas feasting or just prior to summer season. I tend to lose weight over winter as the beer drinking tapers off but when I do need to lose 5 kilos or so I use the Dukan diet. Basically high protein to feed the body and no carbs to burn the fat.You can google it for more details. I came to know it from a lady in a pilates class who used it to lose 30 kilos and had nothing but good things to say about it. Do you have a favourite "kill the weight" regime ? Lets hear it.

is the one you can stick to. Most people cannot stick to 'name' diets longer term because they are restrictive in nature. This is why I don't generally advocate particular types of diets. If you are exercising regularly, then a balanced diet of meat, fish, poultry, grains, fruit, vege's and dairy is all you need in order to manage your weight longer term It's pretty simple, if you are burning as many calories as you take in, then your weight management will be easy

As a personal trainer, gym manager, and instructor, I guess one of the things I notice is how so many people at the gym are simply NOT pushing themselves hard enough. Diet is of the upmost importance, and it's never a bad idea to try a new diet to see if it works for you. But to my point - so many people in the gym just 'going through the motions', getting through a set of 10 reps with relative ease instead of struggling through 8-9-10...I see it all the time. People saying "oh I can't do that class, it's too hard for me" - Ummm, actually it's not, just get in there and fucking DO IT. Work out HARD (you're supposed to sweat!), go home exhausted, eat right, and do it all again tomorrow. Anyone who says "sex is the only exercise I need", also needs some education, sex isn't THAT hard, I would not consider it a workout unless you are seriously unfit. Perhaps many people on here are... Anyway, bottom-line: Work out hard, 5 times a week, no BS, and eat for your abs. You can't get abs just doing core exercises...why don't people understand this? I get so many new clients who think they can convert their slab in to a 6-pack just by doing crunches. *FACEPALM*

About 5 months back i decided to eliminate added sugar from my diet..not to lose weight, but out of future health concerns. For much the same reason i gave up smoking 7 years ago : I don't want to die young from something self inflicted. Not without doing something about it, anyway. Anyway, i was adding sugar to my daily coffees by the tablespoon full. It was occurring to me that diabetes might be a real possibility one day if i kept that up. And so i gave up added sugar. That's all. No exercise...and still having beer whenever i felt like it.. and eating the same as ever. To my surprise, within 3 months i dropped from a slightly pudgy 90+kg to 75kg. I'm fitting back into jeans i hadn't worn in 2 years : ) I didn't do it to lose weight...but I'm naturally pleased with the side effect. It confirmed what i suspected but never cared about before. Processed sugar is the devils food. ; )

I have found interval training works for me, I need to get that heart rate up to burn it off, I agree diet is crucial, am learning more and becoming a real fan of clean eating, fruit, veggies, nuts :-P, averaging around 3 litres of water a day, need protein too of course, obtained from either eggs, chicken or via a shake for me, best steak in the world and the leanest is kangaroo... Served up covered in mushrooms yummm.... I'm not a sweet tooth, but have a real thing for saltiness , everything in moderation though!

We subscribe to the theory that to drop weight, you need to be hungry. I'm 6'1" and feel and look my best around 82kg, if I creep out to 87kg then I know it's time to ease off on the tucker and let myself feel hungry and it will drop away comfortably in a month. I'm already on a fairly restrictive diet for a couple of reasons (medical and choice) so I tend to go for portion control, more whole foods than processed foods and keep it balanced as Fit73 said. Im lucky, my job is quite physical, and I eat a healthy diet (pescatiarian) so I don't have to put that much effort into staying slim. I eat a lot of raw food. My downfall is a nice glass or four of wine, but we have to treat ourselves from time to time. Yes, Koolgrey, I read that book "White Poison" .....certainly an eye opener and made me cut down on the sugar!

But when I get active, my weight drops off quite quickly, so I go for a combo of s/excercise mainly :-P, and a little cutting down of the amount of food I eat. What I actually eat doesn't change much aside from skipping snacks in between meals. . Hehe, and having a bit of health issue, having a turn (infrequently) or fasting for testing every few years has a way of dropping off kilos in a hurry lol. . It's not a big worry for me I'm lucky to say. Cheers :-)

sometimes I will eat just once a day, usually late in the day, then I will overeat because I hate waste and make oversized portions. If I am sitting and there is food in front of me I will eat when I am not hungry just because it is there but I am not typically a a grazer unless I am sitting and someone else put the food there because otherwise I am on the go when I am not sitting and then I don't even think to eat. I hardly ever get hungry as such and if I do the moment passes when I am busy also. Other days I eat 3 times a day, others I snack on the run and I am more of a savoury eater than a sweet tooth and can easily avoid sweet stuff even if it is right in front of me. I would like to check out the paleo diet because I prefer whole foods and refuse to live on 'lite' foods because I just don't think they are that good for you in the long term. I don't eat much dairy either but can be a sucker for a good cheese platter. Milk is pretty much non existent in my diet and yogurt I have a little bit of here and there. Funnily enough I do like creamy sauces and also cream on fruit?? I probably eat too many carbs but I feel a bit naked without them as a staple! Hard to break the habit of being brought up with bread, potatoes, rice or pasta in one form or another with every meal.

I strictly follow the good old Kickstart Soup diet for 7 days (google soup diet - today/tonight) It is a medically conceived diet for patients to quickly lose some weight prior to lapband or gastric surgery of any type It has stood the test of time having been devised in 2003 It is safe and guarantees rapid weight loss, especially if you incorporate exercise (ideally walking) into your day (30 minutes is recommended) The diet is a all you can eat vegetable soup (homemade) where you gradually reintroduce fruit, and carbs into your diet This diet does not fail, just do not cheat and you will see immediate results And easy to stick to as its only for 7 days and you don't bit feel hungry as you can eat as much soup as you like I once lost 5 kgs on it within 7 days but I did exercise everyday as well I always up my water intake to really get it going Yep when your doe you are over soup for a while but this is a good time of year to start it as you can do it a few times during the winter months to see awesome results for next spring .

I gave up beer and went to vodka/soda, dropped about 20kg, gave up smoking and put 10kg back on, but lots of little meals, breakfast is a must, lots of protein/nuts/dark green vegs, keep the carbs minimal and allow yourself a treat now and then, this works a treat for most people..... Me, well I like the quote "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!" (Hunter S. Thompson) 💋

After 14 years of playing body contact sport , I've been lucky enough to maintain a fairly good waist line... Wasn't always that way but .. When I hung up the boots ' I let everything slide for a few years enjoying all the things I deprived myself of for years... But when the 6 pack began to fade I decided it was time to pull the plug on anything containing sugar and white bread... These days I only use whole meal if ever , and honey if I want to sweeten something. Up'ed the protein and cut back the carbs... Not what I once was , but still get some favourable comments , so I can't ask more than that..

I appreciate the hints and advice here, but it's not as if I don't know how to lose the weight - I lost some before, by sticking, as so many others have, to a no carb diet. Personally, I did Atkins and lost 25kg over 5 months. But that was 10 years ago now and I fear I am succumbing to middle age hormones and can't lose weight whatever I try. Even when I stick to the same diet, which I can't seem to do for more than a week or so, because it's SO BORING, I don't seem to lose any weight! :( They say stress makes your body hold on to the fat - in my case, I must be VERY STRESSED, ALL THE TIME. Or it's the copious bucketfuls of wine I need to consume to forget how miserable I am. Clearly I also need to do more exercise - I haven't had sex since Jan 14th and it's probably the only exercise I enjoy - but it's sure not as much fun 'solo'.

LadyTuscan3 – please go see a doctor about your condition – it may be serious or need treatment. I haven’t met you yet but I think I should To lose weight a combination of both weights and High Intensity Interval training really does the trick. Just try to keep your caloric intake down and try to work out what not only suits you but your life. As much as a hate to type this a three week dry period helped immensely… Trust me

I agree with Hotstepper85, I have lost 60kg in the last few years & exercise was a major part of that, but you need to keep building the intensity. Food is also obviously important, but I find I make better food choices when I'm training hard anyway. I'm now studying to be a Personal Trainer, to help others needing to lose a large amount of weight. Jacqui ;-) - Posted from rhpmobile

in order to exercise. Exercise can be a brisk work every day for half an hour. You just have to move and do something every day for half an hour (45 minutes is ideal). Diets for the most part are short term fixes, but as soon as you get off the diet and go back to 'normal' living, you put the weight back on. Eating a balanced diet is not as hard as it seems and neither is going for a brisk walk every day.

Simply: Don't diet Lifestyle: I don't think all calories are created equal and the same amount of calories from different food groups, will have vastly different affects on the body. So you can't simply say minimise calories. As I think it sets you up to fail. Carbs are the big ones. They can really only be broken down into glucose, which is sugar (and stored as fat) - carbs are not an essential in food. Though, glucose is necessary, but can be converted from from fat (from excess fat and protein). Fats and proteins are required though. Carbs do other weird stuff to the body, which isn't great for reducing weight (and other health problems). I think a vegetable based diet, with addition of fat and protein (in the form of whole foods) is the way to go. Basically what we were eating before food manufacturing. So go to the green grocers and the butcher, and avoid the supermarket. With masses of fibrous vegetables and sprinkly of protein and fat, you don't have to watch what you eat, because satiety kicks in way before you need to worry about calories. Then jiggly your booty about the place.

I think physical activity is the key. I do kettlebell training and walk at a fast pace for an hour every day (having an ex-racing greyhound as a pet helps with that). I also do a lot of incidental exercise, walk instead of catching the shuttle to work, take the stairs instead of the lift, walk to the shops if I only need a few things and I have a fairly physical job. I used to be very overweight and I lost 40kg using portion control and lots of exercise. I could stand to lose another 10kg and I'm slowly chipping away at that doing the 5 and 2 fasting diet. I find it really easy to stick to (the main thing with any diet) as I know that my fast only lasts one day and then I can eat again normally. I get through the fasting days with vegie soups and egg white omelets and, while it's not exciting, it means I don't get too hungry.

Is a big part, I do physical work so that helps a lot, I hate jogging it wrecks your joints but bike riding is awesome, love covering the territory you can with a bike and Perth has an ever expanding bike path network which is great, but I actually prefer the road. Early morning, late at night the smells and fresh air are invigorating !

A lovely male friend of mine swears by a raw food diet. Hes in his 40s and the fittest guy I know, always happy and full of energy. He took me to a raw food cafe and we had a delicious feast of raw food goodies, I was very surprised at how good everything was. I even took home a recipe for "The Fixer" which is a blend of chopped dates, cacao powder and almond milk. Its like a luxury chocolate milk shake, ( my son loves them) My diet is probably 50% raw. Not for everybody, but it works for me. My downfall, yes Precious...........sparkling wine

To lose weight its simply a matter of burning more calories than you eat!!!!!Having said that its fucking hard to lose weight. Perhaps thats what I need, more hard fucking!.It would be a win - win........burn more calories .....less time for eating
