Personal Diet Trainers

November 26 2016

How many on here engage someone to help with exercise or with eating? For those that have, what aspect is of the most value to you? If you do engage someone do you prefer someone that is hard on you ie the harder they push or the more strict they are the better the results you get and the more you get out of it. Or does someone that is hard/strict just humiliates you?

I did at personality test and found I was dominant yet understanding when I was studying both. So many like a dominant trainer who pushes you and tests your limits, but in a professional way and you know their clients personality. Nutritionally it can be a bit of a nightmare, usually because someone saw something on the internet and think its true. Most don't like being corrected on their eating habits and most won't do anything about their habits until the doc tells them to change. Probably a bit off topic, but I've had to treat every single client different and help them in different ways

to lose weight and get fit & healthy...I needed someone to push me. I was lazy and would have done a bare minimum thinking 'at least I've done something'...then go reward myself with junk food! lolWhen I took it seriously...I still needed pushing, and diet advice..which I got from a PT friend of mine. I still train with her occasionally. But after 5-6yrs now...I can do it all myself. I know the eating plan that suits me and my training. I push myself hard every day, and mix up my schedule with weights, pt/crossfit and boxing. I think it's mostly mindset. If you're serious, you can do it (with or without help).

.... what you eat is 70% of the puzzle. The right info, with plenty of support from people who are wanting the same results as you or that have achieved what you want to helps. Ultimately it comes to you putting it high in your values, and wanting to do it. For most people it isnt hard at all once you find something that works for you long term. The industry has been full of fads, half truths and empty promises for a long long time and the trust is a big factor

I run a side venture offering nutritional advice, just helping people with the right information go help them make the right choices and reach their goals. Support does not need to be punishing (unless someone is seeking that) but I have found that people stick with it as soon as they start to see results and have an accountability partner - Posted from rhpmobile

The help of a dietician and a PT in the past for medical reasons. I did not ask for nor wanted help from those professionals at all! But my doctor said I had to as it was part of his job to give me a proper care plan! Therefore, I had to use those services and I hated it! Why? Because I found that those professionals only wanted results fast! Especially the Dietician, she was never encouraging but always pushed and pushed, even with me consistently dropping a couple of kilos between each of my fortnight appointments with her! Hence, I ran as quickly as I could once the deadline of using her service was due and never went back to see her again! Frankly speaking, and as we all know, ultimately it is up to the individual whether or not they are serious about doing something for their own health! I am strong willed and self motivated. I will stop at nothing when I'm determined to do something or to achieve a goal. Hence, I ditched the dietician and began to do my own study on what nutritional food I need to eat and my daily calorie intake, etc. and I shed 14kg, over a period of eight months, just from sticking to my daily calorie limits, as well as getting on my feet more during the day. Yes, it might be a slow process, but the end result is still the same and long lasting than doing the strict diet and strenuous exercise weekly! - Posted from rhpmobile

Do you want results or do you want to be enabled? Some PTs are very talented and can sit on that fine line between being hard and being supportive. PTs are meant to push you to your limits. If a PT lets YOU define those limits, you may not get any results, if that makes sense? At the end of the day, most of us will take the path of least resistance ;) I think if you are ready for the challenge and find a good PT, you won't feel humiliated. If anything even if you feel like you've hit rock bottom, you'll feel proud for having gone hard.
