Things to do between Gold Coast to Tassie!

October 25 2015

So I am coming up to the end of my study year and I am hitting the road for a bit of my 3 months uni break and have decided to travel a road Ive not yet which is QLD to TAS. As I have always been a terrible travel planner and have a tendency to just go where the road leads me I can sometimes overlook some fantastic spots SO I am wondering if you wouldn't mind throwing me some suggestions around the "To dos' along the way - I will probably travel the coastal roads and am wanting to spend a few days in Sydney, and Melbourne primarily focused on good food places, and then take the ferry across with my vehicle to Tassie where I want to combine my love of hiking and good food too. So please come forth with your local knowledges of any "Must visit" food places or anything you think would be worth a diversion for Looking forward to seeing what people suggest, nothing like the thought of the open road to put a smile on my face!

We once did a trip from Melbs to NQ, so reverse from you but the same, but we did ours in a week rather than three months. Effectively we did a zig zag from Melbourne to the Gold Coast. There's plenty to see depending what you are looking for... Here's what we did.. Melbourne.. Gundagai to see the dog on the tucker box, Glenrowan (Ned Kelly), Canberra, then down through the Snowy Mountains, up the coast to the 'Gong, had done Sydney/Darling Horbour before so diverted around below Sydney out through the blue mountains and out to Bathurst having a few laps of the race track, up to Tamworth, then back to the coast to I think Coffs, Brunswick Heads foraa night, and up to the GC. When in Melbourne make sure you do the Great Ocean Road, and if you've never seen koalas in the wild before look up Bimbi Park (caravan park) at cape Otway. On the great ocean road there are a few lighthouses if you like them and also a treetop walk (Google that too) which is suspension bridges over rainforest. Lastly, the Yarra valley is quite good if you like wineries and someone to have a chat to on a weekend :) The Gippsland Lakes are kind of nice if you have some time and like the water too. And Ballarat may be worth a day or two. But seriously, with three months in hand, take it slow and there'll be plenty of time to come a little inland as well. Don't just stick to the coast, go see some Australian Icons as well. Cheers, G.

You could always do me at the start of the trip. South Coast NSW is God's country in my opinion. The further south you go the less it's been overrun by Sydney tourists. Start about Kiama and take a couple weeks travelling down to the border. Stop Berry, Jervis Bay area, Batemans Bay, Tathra/Bega and Eden. Just chill out and soak in ambience of the little towns and there is always a great little restaurant if you ask the locals. There are lots of little towns between the ones I mentioned which are great places to stay in. I did a road trip from Brisbane to Canberra via Batemans Bay earlier this year and it was awesome getting back to that part of the world. I was born in Nowra and would move the south coast in a heart beat if wasn't for my kids living in Brisbane. fancy a trip buddy for some of the trip?

Not quite on the coast but well worth the detour ;) Lots of wineries and the gourmet region of Victoria's north east. Welcome to stay on our farm and explore the delights ;)

The restaurant names escape me ' but well worth a visit.. Plus your'e likely to bump into a few celebrities while your'e there.. Not to mention those famous celeb's who own and occupy some of the penthouses at the harbour end of the same pier..

Sounds like you need a little send off 'party'. I would volunteer for that.
