in my new place. These last few weeks have been some of the hardest of my life. At times I didn't think I could keep going. Just seemed like setback after setback. Feeling better now that I'm in my own space, with my own belongings. That I have my own bathroom, small as it may be. And that I can sleep in my own (new) bed. I got pizza for dinner from an Italian restaurant literally next door to me. And nature put on a spectacular lightning show for my first night here. Still so much to do but hopefully it will get a bit easier from here.

I had a few hours reprieve at least. Found out this morning that my car has hail damage from the storm last night. I didn't even realise at the time that there was hail, thought it was really noisy but not being familiar with the place I thought it was tree branches knocking on the building, as there are a lot of trees around it. Sigh. At least I'm finally getting to do some washing. Was nearly out of clean underwear. Gotta latch onto the little things at the moment to keep me going.

Moving is stressful! I have done it twice in the last 18mths (moved to a unit in the city, then to my new house whislt renovating 2 properties at the same time). Give yourself 6mths to settle. Before you know it, you'll look back and go "WOW! I did it. It was all worth it". 😊 Ms Foxy

Back when I was at college, moving was listed as one of the top four stressors in our lives. Death of a loved one, divorce and starting a new job were the other three. You've done two of those. So congratulate yourself, look in the mirror and say really loudly "I am fucking amazing" and know it is the truth. Congratulations to you. I hope you will fall in love with Newcastle and the Hunter Valley and enjoy your time there. It's one of the places I enjoyed living. Gypsy Wild

I hope you will fall in love with Newcastle and the Hunter Valley and enjoy your time there. It's one of the places I enjoyed living. Gypsy Wild My dad probably only has a few weeks, at best I'd say 3 to 4 months to live, so I'm pretty much going through three of those top life stressors at once. It's really fucking hard that's for sure. Like you say though, sometimes in my brief moments of being able to relax a bit, when I acknowledge that I'm still going and haven't had a total breakdown, I realise that I am a lot stronger than I even give myself credit for. I'm not working or living in Newcastle itself so still haven't seen all of the parts of it that I would like to check out. Have to admit I fell a bit in love with Stockton while I was staying there, I could easily see myself living there one day, if I could ever afford it!

That's a huge amount on your mind, no doubt overwhelming at times. Very sorry to hear the news about your dad. 😔 Take small wins as a postive, let the future stay where it is. Stick to your routines because they bring comfort & make your new place a sanctury for yourself... and reach out when you need to (and can). You will be in the thoughts of many people - me included xx

I knew it would be hard to do everything on my own, but I didn't anticipate just how hard. There is a women's health centre in Newcastle. One of the counselors is an ex colleague of mine. It's a good place to make connections. There's also quite a few neighborhood centres in the Hunter. Also good places to make connections. Getting to know people can be difficult yet friends are so important in nurturing and supporting us. You will be in my thoughts.

I actually do agree with your post about the top 4 stressors. Moving, Death of a loved one, divorce and starting a new job. I've gone through 3 out of the four in less than 12months. I don't know how I've done it. But I just have. To top it off I now have my mother on quality of life (day by day with her). I think when one has some many things happening with continuous stress levels daily, resilience levels just increase over time and coping skills are just there and one just keeps soldiering on. Some things we have no control over, except ourselves. If we didn't have those 4 stressors, life would be a total breeze and too predictable. Ms Foxy

I agree some stress is necessary and we grow resilience. I advocate self care because I was someone who kept goin in the face of extremely stressful situations, until I burned out. That changed my life significantly. So ask for support, share your struggle and pain with professionals, and do things that are nourishment for mind, body and soul.
-
RHP User

Agree totally. The majority of human beings aren't built to withstand unrelenting and ever-increasing amounts of stress. Yes a certain amount of stress can be beneficial and help us to adapt and increase our resilience (see the term eustress), but too much and too long and there comes a point where your health - physical and mental - begins to suffer. Self care is incredibly important, I've been trying to do what I can but I know that the constant mental and physical demands, lack of sleep, pretty poor diet, feelings of isolation, and emotional worries are taking their toll. Know I need to push through because it should get better soon but there's no way I could keep going like I have been for even another few weeks.

And here's a toast to you Ms-Foxxy for creating a convivial space to chat and share. (raises champagne glass)and I have some Midori right here to go in that champagne to make it even more luscious.I have to say that today at work we were treated to home made maccarons in various flavours. They were made and brought in by our resident cake maker/decorator - a great treat for afternoon tea - even beats her red velvet cake which is also pretty awesome. Have a fabulous night everyone.

Not sure where to post this but putting it out there FYI. Last week went for full check up at NSW Dept of Health STD clinic at local hospital and just have to say rate them highly. I hadn’t been for a while and though I had no concerns it’s just something I do for peace of mind. ( Also no condom topic freaked me out a bit 🙄) Anyway they were much better than a Dr. way more thorough. My check up and chat went for an hour and was very informative. They also provided a counselling session with phone counsellor after I told Dr about something that had happened to me last year. It’s free as well. Just thought I’d put it out there as a great resource. - Posted from rhpmobile
