I was shopping this afternoon...my regular little farmers market sort of place...on my way home after I went to see the new Avengers movie at the local Westfield.I'm in the carpark, stuffing my Kipfler potatoes into my jacket pocket( I didn't have my backpack cos I'd just been to the movies.. ) and a 70-80yo woman in a blue cardigan, slippers and pink slacks, stops and says "Thats a lovely looking bike.." ( about my 07 Yamaha R1.. ) And we had a good chat about motorbikes. I guessed pretty closely from her slight British accent...I suggested Nortons or?...and she confirmed that she used to ride Triumphs back in the day. There's a definite camaraderie around bikes that goes back a long time.

I can relate a little to your experience Cavey. I used to ride a rebuilt BSA 250 with just a leather jacket and gloves standard trousers and Rossi's around Warrnambool and Colac in winter when I was doing my apprenticeship. Although the max kms was 80 I had just about prize my hands of the the handlebars to get into Tafe class before 8am. Riding through those Stony Rises--- fuck it was cold. I used to restore and ride Triumph Tiger, and Ariel. The BSA I built from a frame in farmers Paddock. The Riders now have got it too easy--but I guess that's technology.

Coldest i've ever ridden in was inner Mongolia heading to Nepal on a Honda CG125 ( think of it as a postie bike on steroids) Bare bones, ran on chicken fat, and just about as fast as a chicken. Which was a blessing in disguise, as i didnt have the wind chill factor to contend with. You face just freezes into a position of pain, hands are numb, toes are frozen solid. Its just hell. But get through it, and its the only thing you talk about afterwards

Is this for the black dog? - Posted from rhpmobile Interesting point you make inspirit. The day I was referring to above, on Saturday, was not to do with depression or Black Dog. And, in actual fact, there are many causes that use a blue ribbon as an emblem. There were 37 in the list I looked at the other day. I was also being a little cryptic with what I was referring to, as I don't wish to necessarily make that link publicly. There is at least one person on the Forums who knows to what I refer, as I have shared relevant information with them in the past. Sorry not to give greater clarity publicly. Hope you are well. Well, as I can't sleep and it's 4:03a.m., I'll mention something I saw on the tv tonight while flipping channels. It was the broadcast of the Wings for Life World Run. Their slogan is, Run for those that can't. The monies raised are for spinal cord research. This year's event was tonight our time and is run simultaneously around the globe, including in, Melbourne, Oslo, Ypres, Ibiza, London, Chisnãu, Plymouth U.S.A., Zug in Switzerland, Innsbruck, Stockholm, Pretoria, Brdo pri Kanji in Slovenia, Vienna, Munich, Poznan, Izmir in Turkey, Taoyuan in Taiwan, Bratislava, Mumbai, Kahketi in Georgia, and Zadar in Croatia. .. It's a unique concept, with "Catcher Cars" sent off 30 minutes after the runners begin, in order to catch the runners, as well as those in wheelchairs. The cars increase their speed at designated intervals. The first person to be caught by the Catcher Car, was just 1min. 43sec. after the car left the Florida start line. It was a woman walking with a walking frame, so gee, even I could give it a go. .. One woman in her early thirties was competing in a wheelchair. She had been at a friend's party, climbing, with others, on a poorly secured swing set. It fell over and as it did so, her back landed on one of the bars. She has spent the rest of her life in a wheelchair, although, she competes in Paralympics and is looking forward to doing so again in Tokyo 2020. Remarkable young woman. .. At 3hrs. 19min. there were just 177 of the over 10,000 who started world wide. Three minutes later, there were just 156. Another 16 were caught in the next three. At 3hrs. 35min. just 91 remained. Ten minutes later, only 58. Three of which were women. At 3hrs. 47min., all three had been caught, at around 53.7km. covered. Awesome stuff. 67.3 km. in, at 4hrs. 28min. a Polish fellow won the Australian leg, down in Melbourne. He was tenth or eleventh. The last runner, a German, running in Germany, Andreas StaBner, ran 76.6 km. in just under 5hrs. . I came to bed before the Swedish wheelchair participant won the overall race, competing in Florida. His name is Aron Anderson, as a child he'd had a cancer removed from near his spine, there was nerve damage as a result and he had ended up as a result, in a wheelchair. He's a truly awesome young fellow, they showed a great bio piece on him. .. The warm weather in Europe had made it a tough run this year for those that chose to start in Europe. Mrs. urn. even woke up at the end and commented on how incredible it was. Truly inspiring. Mr. urn. .

I have a friend who has competed in the race here in Melbourne . Its one of a kind thats for sure. I got to hang out at the assembly point while I waited for him to return after being caught by the catcher car. There was huge screens broadcasting the international feeds, overall a great atmosphere with food vans (and coffee!). It almost inspired me to get fit enough to have a crack myself.... but then I settled down and reality hit as to what a mammoth task that would be 🤣

A decent movie I worked on in New Zealand last year has been released in Australia recently.. A pretty cool movie with Stan Walker (Australian Idol 2009) and Alice Eve... plus some pretty amazing other talent. Originally I went over to take a "Month Holiday" and work with the horse crews.. but scored a couple of "Extra" scenes as a miner.. a couple of miners actually.. Was pretty cool to kick back and watch it all on a decent sized TV in good quality.. knowing what goes on behind the scenes... and being able to pick up sooo much after actually being involved for so long with it. IF you guys see it and get a chance to watch it.. I reckon you will like it..

July 2005.. and travelling from Belfast to Dublin the day before the London underground bombings.Locally, it was well known pretty well straight away that the terrorist Suicide bombers were of Middle Eastern origins and sentiments.HOWEVER... I received maybe 30 to 40 texts from Aussie friends, all along the lines of.."Hey Cavey (Real name used here) I see you had a successful trip to London this morning"Some were more explicit..I had to travel back to Belfast then fly out through the middle east myself via Birmingham 10 days later...I want to tell you.. I was shitting myself.. Absolutely positive that the texts would have been read, and I was about to be arrested..It was not until I passed THROUGH Customs at Perth International, 30 something hours after leaving Belfast, and in the taxi headed to my motel that I began to feel any ease at all..THIS time, I will NOT be taking my Aussie phone with me.. "Who need enemies eh, when you have such friends"

I do not remember ever seeing so many Mother's Day's wishes at once, thank fellas! On behalf of me and mine, we hit the beach at what used to be our fav' holiday spot. There was more driving than visiting today today but we used the day to scatter our fur baby's ashes (she passed a fair while ago but we kept hoping to afford a holiday, and gave up. We took along our old boy (8 years old) since he is truly showing his age in his hips and it was very sad to see he couldn't take the waves any more. He Is the reason we got on with it. He had a ball, literally, a tennis ball, and a wahu frisbee to play with amongst the family, lol. Hubby wondered if he remembered the place, and his behaviour suggested he did. It's been a long time sobce he was interested in tog of war with the frisbee. It was a gorgeous day, I'm sunburnt, suspect I'm not the only one out of the small group of three generations (plus old fur boy) there today... We had fish and chips at a lovely little gazebo within sight and sound of the beach. Then pretty much enjoyed the length of several kms of beach all to ourselves, aside from the very few walkers and swimmers well out of earshot most of the time. We took a lot of pictures, I'm only sorry the wave that almost took hubby out while he was scattering the ashes was only captured via photo. So, it was a day of some sadness alongside our celebrations, but fun to see other families celebrating their day and be thankful for all we have. Peachy

I have posted about AllOut in the past it was my daughter who told me about this wonderful global movement a number of years ago, I have been involved with AllOut ever since. A recap of what AllOut is all about.. All Out is a global movement fighting for a world where NO ONE has to sacrifice their family, freedom, safety, or dignity because of who they are or who they love. The email I have just read. The stakes have never been higher. Earlier this month, Rugby Australia opted to take no action against Israel Folau after he said gay people were headed to "hell" unless they "repent their sins and turn to God."In an era when the US President is leading a movement of hate against LGBT+ people, immigrants, refugees, women, and people of color, we know that the future is a battle over who can mobilise best. All Out members, and the values we champion, must win that fight. That’s why Jeremy Heimans, who founded All Out with Andre Banks, has co-written a revolutionary book, New Power. It’s about how each of us can spread ideas, build movements and make sense of our chaotic, hyperconnected world..We want our supporters to have the tools to win this power battle and make the case for LGBT+ equality around the world..New Power is one of the most anticipated books of the year. Jane Goodall says that this book will "inform and inspire all those wanting to make change and achieve a goal against all odds."Alicia Garza, the Black Lives Matter co-founder, has called it a "must-read" and a "gift to our movements." The ACLU's chief, Anthony Romero, says that New Power is the "cool, clear guide we all need to navigate the Trump era."From #MeToo and #NeverAgain to Donald Trump, those who master new power – for better and for worse – are transforming our world. It was new power that launched All Out into the world – when millions of people came together to help Ugandan activists stop the "Kill the Gays" bill.Cheers :-)

Quoting 'cavey50' TRYING to photograph iridescent green scorpions... but STILL can only capture them blue :( Hi cavey. . Trying to capture iridescence can be trying. Although, I haven't tried to do so with scorpions. The only things I can suggest are water/moisture, angle and also light level, perhaps either end of the day. Otherwise an underlying blue will tend to dominate. If you are photographing inside, there are some really specific aquarium lights that will help, it's those I'm more familiar with. Otherwise, if they are digital images, play with hue, contrast, exposure, et cetera. Anyway, just a thought. Good luck. Mr. urn. .

In the past, I have joined camera clubs, only to find that MOST members are NOT interested in Teaching.. only showing off. Yeah, nice bit of kit. Was thinking along the lines of a light diffuser or portable film light reflector too. Also thought maybe multi-frame shots while moving around the body of the scorpions, top to bottom say. .. I then had a look online and saw a forum talking about flash diffusion or turning flash off, while experimenting with angle. A few mentioned flash diffusers. .. Hope some of that helps. Years ago I had a friend who was a wildlife photographer, he also taught photography at TAFE. First lesson was always taking the camera apart and putting it back together, so you got to know the equipment... As for clubs, my experience with any kind of club tends to be that they are full of fools trying to show everybody how clever they are and who they know. My initial response was to never let on about how much I knew, that way I could see how little they did. And when asked if I knew so and so, say no, need I? Helps when you are the top of the field in the country. I never minded helping people wanting to know more, however, few seemed willing to put the necessary effort in to achieve their goals. Good luck. .. Oh, I forgot to mention that that wildlife photographer made some great indoor sets for shooting, so don't give up on that idea either. With close up photography they can be surprisingly basic. .. Mr. urn. .

yep.. but no flash on UV subject.. I read I Can play around with filters and even the suggestion of altering the flash unit to take out the INBUILT uv filters..I will get it.. and always keen to learn how to improve.. I want to learn how to capture WHAT I see though.. With the scorpions.. they ARE flitty creatures, and unless I catch them out and about, they are quick to duck back into their holes..So, the next thing (AFTER I get the settings right to capture the green) is to set up a long lasting UV lamp and a remote trigger.. so they will (Hopefully) get used to the lamp.. and come out and I can get them that way.. I know I can go get a "Tamer" scorpion and bring it indoors, but I don't learn much that way ;) Thanks for your suggestions.. every bit help oneway or the other :)

Keep the digi gear but maybe a 35mm for fun. The old Pentax is now a disposable camera because no techo's work on them, if you keep an eye on Gumtree you could get for next to nothing if the shutter and diaphragm work it's worth the asking price. Nikon F1's are nearly bullet proof.

You're getting colour, but not what you're seeing.I'd fool around with the WB settingsChoose the incandescent setting, see what you get, then go to the flouro setting and see.Once you find the closest match, then manually change your Kelvin settings Below 4600k for warmer, above 5000k for cooler. Then introduce filters etc. My understanding is that they turn UV light into the colour we see. But the camera isn't getting it. Much like videoing LED lights. Our eyes don't see them pulse, but that's what comes through on video without adjustment. But here's the fun bit. If they do convert UV light into what we see, that can change every single day, unless the UV is controlled. I guess its a trail and error kinda thing, but i for one would be very interested to find out how you overcome this

Yers.... he is way too cool for school.... and too young lol. Pretty impressed that at 2yr 7mths old he can even count that high (and also backwards from 18... I'm not sure what 19 did wrong to warrant being left out lol). I know teenagers who can't do it without referring to their phones or asking for a calculator 🤣 But the oneteen and twoteen was soooo cute.. and a reminder of how silly the english language can be.

Quoting 'MFW_23' Yep being able to wear boots, leggings, etc. is definitely a positive of the colder weather. I also bought some very cute flannelette sheets with animals on them, and am wearing slippers for the first time ever. Even things like wearing full length leggings to exercise in are a first for me! Cannot go past flannelette sheets, we have dinosaur ones. Must get some more actually. And happy birthday from us. Hope things begin to improve for you as the year moves on. Mr. & Mrs. urn. .

Its chucking it down here. Winds and rain, cold and wet....Great for the ducks, that can anchor themselves down. So move around and make some room by the fireplace for a wet and windswept guy. Oh and I'll have a flat white and a slice of that blueberry cheese cake please.

Wish I could get out in it and go for a walk. However, I'm trying to work from home today but my neighbour's loud music is not helping. Can't hear myself think.Unfortunately he doesn't think it's too loud and is carrying on regardless.Sigh.

I am Loving the weather in Perth. I finally get to wear sleeves again! I'd had enough warning about the coming rain to get our clothes washed and dried, and was just finishing bringing them in when I felt the first spit on Thursday. I grabbed hubby and we stood out in the rain to appreciate the first drops and the smell as they hit the ground. Heavenly. I hate to imagine the roads at the moment, so I'm glad I get to appreciate it from indoors. If I could have a mulled wine with some cheese and crackers, I'd be grateful. Peachy
